Circassian girl at the Oscars

 


"Pinocchio" by Guillermo del Toro, set by Merve Chaydere, daughter of a Circassian family from Çorum, Turkey, won the Best Animation category at the Academy Awards, where five films competed, according to the KAFFED website. 

The 95th Academy Awards found their owners at a ceremony held Sunday at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. At the Oscars for "Pinocchio, Guillermo del Toro, set by Merve Chaidere, was awarded the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film, in which 5 films competed.

Merve Çaydere, whose mother is from the village of Çorum-Tugku and her father is from the village of Çorum-Saraycıklı, graduated from Hacettepe University, Faculty of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. In 2015, she left for the United States for higher education. Worked as a set designer in a film crew. She made architectural drawings of the sets built with a drawing program called Vectorworks.
