A showcase of traditional Circassian (Adyghe) and stylized costumes will take place at the Pushkin People's House in Maykop, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Adygea has announced.
"Adygea will mark the 15th anniversary of the Day of the National Circassian Costume—a celebration dedicated to one of the key symbols of Adyghe culture and historical heritage. Guests can look forward to a rich program that blends tradition with contemporary creativity, music, and dance," the Ministry stated.
The organizers emphasize that the Circassian (Adyghe) costume is more than just clothing; its silhouette, patterns, ornaments, and details reflect the history, aesthetic values, honor, and dignity of the people. The event offers an opportunity to revisit this heritage and witness how national traditions continue to live on and evolve today.
The costume showcase in Maykop begins on September 28 at 16:00 PM. A celebratory concert follows at 17:00, and the *Adyghe Dzhegu* (traditional social gathering) starts at 18:00.
In recent days, several events have taken place in Maykop, the capital of Adygea, in preparation for National Costume Day. A discussion on preserving the national costume was held at the National Museum, featuring prominent Adygean designers. The republic's art gallery hosted two lectures on traditional costume styles and their modern interpretations, as well as a workshop on Adygean gold embroidery. Events marking the occasion will also be held across various regions of Adygea.
National Circassian Costume Day is celebrated throughout the Circassian homeland—including the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, the Karachay-Circassian Republic, and the Shapsug region on the Black Sea coast.
The day is also observed by the Circassian diaspora in Turkey, Jordan, Syria, Israel, Europe, the United States, and other countries.
