The European Judo Cup competition concluded in Skopje, the capital of Macedonia. Rolan Kunizhev—a Circassian judoka from the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (the eastern part of the Circassian homeland) and a trainee of the "Lokomotiv" club—took third place in the under-90 kg weight category, the Ministry of Sports of Kabardino-Balkaria reports.
Rolan Kunizhev competed in six bouts, winning five of them. On his path to the medal, he defeated opponents including Joel Hedenblad (Sweden), Daniel Miklosvelgyi (Hungary), Mohamed Azaz (Egypt), and Islam Sogenov (representing Serbia). Kunizhev was stopped only in the semifinal, where he faced Akhmet Tsechoev (Ingushetia), the eventual tournament winner.
In the match for third place, Kunizhev defeated the Italian judoka Luigi Pippa, demonstrating a high level of preparation and competitiveness on the international stage.
