Elberd Bif in an interview with the Adygea TV channel in Circassian

 


We present a video interview conducted by journalist Susanna Guchelh of the Republic of Adygea TV channel with Circassian scholar Elberd Bif from the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (the eastern part of the Circassian homeland). The interview was conducted in Circassian.

Elberd Bifov is a Circassian scholar, linguist, and researcher in the field of Circassian (Adyghe) and Abkhaz-Adyghe linguistics.

His scholarly and educational work focuses on the study of the history, origins, and development of Caucasian languages, as well as the ethnogenesis of the Circassians (Adyghe).

Main research areas:
- Ethnogenesis and ancestral homeland: Study of how and when the Proto-Abkhazo-Adyghe community formed, as well as the migration routes of the ancestors of modern Adyghe to the Caucasus.
- Historical linguistics: Analysis of the connections between ancient cultures (such as the Maykop and Koban cultures) and modern Caucasian peoples.
- Dialectology: Study of the phonetic and lexical features of Adyghe dialects, the reasons for their emergence, and language contacts (for example, studying the Adyghe dialect among the Ubykhs).
- Genetic genealogy: Integration of DNA testing data (including whole-genome studies) with classical linguistics to more accurately reconstruct the genealogies and ethnic history of regions.
