The Grand Slam judo tournament, which kicks off the Olympic qualification points process for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, was held in Mongolia, according to the Ministry of Sport of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.
The large-scale competition brought together approximately 500 participants from 62 countries. This event is crucial for all Olympic license candidates, as it officially marks the beginning of the 2028 Olympic qualification points countdown.
In the 100 kg final, Circassian judoka Idar Bifov from Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia, faced Italian judoka Gennaro Pirelli. The bout was tense – the fight lasted more than eight minutes – but luck favored his opponent, and the Circassian athlete took silver.
Nevertheless, Bifov's performance in Mongolia was a double success: in addition to the medal, he significantly improved his ranking at the start, which is important for further qualification. Zalim Gadanov is training him.
