The Sambo World Cup, one of the key international tournaments of the season under the auspices of the International Sambo Federation, was held in Yerevan.
About 300 sambists from 20 countries gathered in the Armenian capital to compete for medals in three disciplines: sport sambo, combat sambo, and sambo for the blind. The tournament is traditionally characterized by a high level of competition and intense fighting in every weight category.
After confidently winning all his bouts, including the final against his compatriot Aznaur Papshuov, Aslan Abazov, a graduate of the A.T. Shaov Baksan Sports School in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, took first place in the 88 kg weight category.
He became the winner of the 2026 Sambo World Cup.
