The Russian Sambo Championships are underway in St. Petersburg. Athletes from Adygea have won three medals,- the Sovetskaya Adygea newspaper reports, citing a statement of the Olympic Reserve Sports School for Sambo of the Republic of Adygea.
About a thousand of the country's strongest athletes took to the mats of the Arena Concert and Sports Complex to compete for the title of best in sport and combat sambo.
"This is a key event in the sports calendar, determining the composition of our national team for the current season's international competitions," the sports school reported.
Adygea athlete Rasul Nash competed in the 71 kg weight class and won the silver medal. Ramazan Tsiku also took second place in the 64 kg weight class. They will now represent Russia at the European Championships. Amin Batman won the bronze medal in the 53 kg weight class.
As a reminder, this year, for the first time in a long time, the Russian national team will be able to compete internationally under the flag and anthem of the Russian Federation.
